Darlene Dietz Drummond passed away May 2, 2022. She was born in Weston, MO on January 9, 1936 to Gerald and Mildred Dietz. She graduated from Bishop Hogan High School. Darlene met the love of her life, Robert Drummond, (Bob) at the young age of 18. They married on December 18, 1954, and they shared 62 happy years together. She was a devout Catholic and made faith and family a priority.
Darlene was a busy homemaker taking care of four children. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed cooking gourmet meals for the whole family. She especially loved entertaining family and friends with just her fancy touch. Darlene played the piano her entire life. “Claire de Lune" and “Moonlight Sonata’, were her favorites. She took voice lessons and sang the “Ave Maria” (also her favorite) at a friend’s wedding. She worked part time for Steinmart for over 20 years. Darlene loved the game of golf and played frequently with Bob and friends. They were members of Leawood South Country Club for 42 years.
In her spare time, Darlene discovered a hidden talent - she painted beautiful, city landscapes, many of which are displayed in her children’s homes or donated to charities. In 1983, she and Bob purchased a lake home in the Ozarks where so many wonderful memories were made. Lastly, Darlene was blessed with many, many, dear friends. She and Bob took routine trips abroad and with their “travel group”.
Darlene leaves behind a sister, Angie Bryant, her children, Terre Messbarger (Steve), Bob Drummond, Jr., (Nieves), Jerry Drummond, and Joe Drummond (Missy). She will be missed by her 5 grandchildren: Annie Soppe (Chad), Katy Auld, Johnny Drummond (Jaque), Lauren Drummond Beal (Max), and Taylor Drummond, and five great grandchildren, Gavin, Sawyer, Archer Soppe, Maya and Sarah Drummond.
