Constance ‘Conni’ Marie Tobin, 73, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, October 17, 2017. Praying of the Rosary followed by the Visitation will be Monday, October 23rd at McGilley State Line Chapel from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, October 24th at 2:00 p.m. at St. Margaret of Scotland Church, 777 NE Blackwell Road, Lee’s Summit, MO, with burial following in the Lee’s Summit Historical Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to McGilley’s after burial for dinner. Attendees are encouraged to wear festive colors in celebration of Conni’s love of life, family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Margaret of Scotland Church.
Conni Tobin was born April 14, 1944, in Kansas City, Missouri, to John F. and Marcella A. Dawson (Batty). She was adopted by Joseph E. Tobin of J.A. Tobin Construction. Conni graduated from Notre Dame de Sion Prep School in 1961 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration/Accounting with highest distinction in 1970 from the University of Kansas. She proudly served her country in the United States Army Reserves.
Conni joined Old American Insurance in 1980 and was promoted to Vice-President and Director, Office of Financial Services. She left Kansas City in 1994 to further husband Don’s career in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. Following retirement, Conni and Don designed and built their ‘dream home’ in Shell Knob, Missouri. In 2006, the couple moved back to Kansas City to be close to family and notably, their growing number of grandchildren.
Professional affiliations and awards include Beta Gamma Sigma, 1969; Summerfield Award, 1970; Wall Street Journal Award, 1970; Financial Executives Institute Award, 1970; Institute of Internal Auditors; AICPA; and, St. Margaret of Scotland Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary.
Conni enjoyed computers, needlework, reading, baking and any time spent entertaining friends and family. Conni was not one to be daunted by any obstacle and moved mountains for those she loved. Her unflagging spirit and determination during the many years of physical hardships was inspiring.
Conni was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald “Don” Ayers; and her brother, Kenneth Tobin. She is survived by her step-son and daughter-in-law, D. Stephen and Stella Ayers; step-daughter and son-in-law Karen and Timothy Canon; two brothers and two sisters, Joseph Tobin, Kevin Tobin, Deborah Tobin, Patricia Tobin; best-friend-sister-cousin Sharon Durrell; and eight grandchildren, Robyn, Zane, Alex, Ian, Chrisanne, Evan, Ella, and Kate; and many others whose lives she touched and who will miss her very much.
