Born on December 12, 1920, Mr. Seidlitz was the son of Charles Newman Seidlitz and the former Alice Richards. He was a fourth generation Kansas Citian and was predeceased by his brothers, George Richards Seidlitz and John Richards Seidlitz.
Known to family and friends as “Pete”, he attended Pembroke Country Day School, Hotchkiss and the University of Missouri. At the outbreak of World War II, Mr. Seidlitz joined the Army Air Corps as a navigator and flew numerous missions over southern Europe. He was shot down twice, managing to avoid capture each time. Upon the end of the war, he returned to Kansas City and joined the Seidlitz Paint Company which had been founded by his father. He eventually became president of the company and, upon its merger with ConChemCo, left to co-found Plastics Enterprises, where he served as president until his retirement in the early 90’s.
Throughout his life, Mr. Seidlitz was an active and eager participant in civic affairs. He served for many years as Senior Warden of Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral, as well as President of the Board of St. Luke’s Hospital. He was also President of the Board of both the Kansas City Country Club and the River Club.
Mr. Seidlitz was the husband of the former Barbara Shackelford. He is also survived by his children, Robin Seidlitz of Kansas City and C.N. Seidlitz, III, of Washington, DC; his grandchildren, Christina Drummond McVeigh of Olympia, Washington; Elizabeth Richards Seidlitz and Ashley Akin Seidlitz, both of New York City; and Joe Kirke Gregg of Kansas City.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, October 29, at 3 PM, at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations in his memory be made to Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral, 415 West 13th St., Kansas City, MO 64105.
