Charley Mercer, 64, of Kansas City passed away at home January 12, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Charley was born June 29, 1949 in Independence to Charles and Audrey Mercer. He graduated from North Kansas City High School in 1967. Charley served in the Air Force from 1969-1974. He loved spending time with family, football, drag racing, and hot rods. He was a supporter and coach of the NYSFL Chargers for 25 years.
Charley is preceded in death by his mother, Audrey; grandparents, Charles and Iola Mercer and grandparents, Sam and Irena Blades. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Ree Mercer; daughter, Chrissy (Dan) Campbell; son, Andy (Cheryl) Mercer; son, Dale (Jamie) Mercer; father, Charles Mercer; sister Sharlea (Gary) Leatherwood; sister Kim (Phil) Elkins; brother, Tim Mercer; uncle, Sam (Lou Ellen) Blades; five adoring grandchildren, Hailey, Desmond, Jayden, Georgia, and Libby.
Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society or Veterans of Foreign Wars. The family is forever grateful to the doctors and nurses at Veterans Administration Hospital. A Celebration of Life will be 10:00 am Friday January 17th at Mount Moriah Terrace Park Funeral Home , 169 Hwy & Shoal Creek Parkway. Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 pm Thursday at Mount Moriah Terrace Park Funeral Home.
