Carol Ann Welter
April 1, 1944 ─ March 11, 2022
Carol Ann Welter, 77, passed away on March 11, 2022 at St. Joseph’s Place on 119th and Rosewood in Overland Park, Kansas.
Carol was born on April 1, 1944 in Olathe, Kansas. She spent her grade school years attending St. Paul’s Catholic School. At that time, her school was just a small brick building in the middle of town. There were only three classrooms with several grades sharing each room. Carol and her younger sister, Pat, and two younger brothers, Dave and Jamie lived with their parents, Harlan and Frances Lanter. Their house was right next door to where their maternal grandfather and an aunt and uncle lived. Another aunt and uncle lived just a block away, so family gatherings for holidays, birthdays and special occasions were an important part of Carol’s childhood.
In 1958, Carol moved with her family to Overland Park, Kansas. She attended Bishop Miege High School in Fairway, Kansas, where she first met and dated her future husband, Ralph Welter. After graduating from Bishop Miege in 1962, she attended Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas. She married Ralph in 1965 and they spent their marriage devoted to each other and their two children, Steve and Cara. The family called many cities home over the years including Little Rock, Memphis, Los Angeles, Houston, and San Jose. After her beloved Ralph passed away in 2007, Carol moved back to Kansas City to be close to her family and long-time friends living in the area.
During her childhood, Carol developed a love for art as well as music, becoming a talented pianist after many years of training. She used those skills throughout her adult life in various occupations in the education field, and later as a communications specialist, a graphic designer, and a website content developer. She also was an avid gardener and a devoted dog lover.
Carol is survived by her two children: Cara Welter-Warner and her husband, Jeff Warner of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; and her son, Steve Welter, of Overland Park, Kansas. She also is survived by two brothers: Dave Lanter and his wife, Kathy, of Leawood, Kansas; and Jamie Lanter and his wife, Martha, of Olathe, Kansas. She will be missed but not forgotten.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2022 at Cure of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Road, Leawood, Kansas as follows: Visitation – 9:00 am to 10:15 am; Rosary – 10:15 am; Funeral Mass – 10:30 am.
