Betty was born June 20, 1928 to George W. Snyder and Mabel (Taft) Snyder in Kansas City, Missouri. Betty attended Southwest High School and graduated in 1946. Betty worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone for many years in the drafting department. She later joined a company softball team where she met her husband of 48 years, John, who coached the team. They dated nearly 12 years before getting married April 24, 1965. They then began to build a house together, which she designed. In April of 1966, they began their family with the birth of their first daughter, Angela. Betty quit her job at Southwestern Bell and dedicated her life to being a full-time wife and mother. Three years later, their second daughter, Rebecca was born. Betty was very involved in the girls' lives. She was in the PTA, and always volunteered to be a room mom and story reader throughout her girls' primary school years.
She had a love for animals, which in time trickled down to one of her children and numerous grandchildren. Betty loved, art and cooking, and was a very creative and crafty lady. This came in very handy when she became a Girl Scout leader. She taught the girls the importance of hard work, compassion, patience, and giving. Betty was very devoted to attending church weekly with the girls. She had a very kind and giving spirit which she shared with family, friends and charities. She prepared meals from scratch. She was most famous for her homemade pasta sauce, and homemade ice cream. This became a family tradition for all birthdays, including the grandchildren. All who knew her always got a laugh out of all of her silly sayings; some of which included “Oh Dear Gus,” “My cow,” and “gee horse-a-fat.”
Betty loved her daily routine of a morning coffee and reading the newspaper from cover to cover. Some of her hobbies include watching the Royals and Chiefs games, extravagant gift wrapping and bowling in a league in which she won numerous trophies.
Betty kept a spotless house and loved to decorate extensively for all of the holidays. She was blessed with five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren whom she loved very much. She will be greatly missed by all, but we know she is being held in the arms of Jesus.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Nazio John, her parents, George W. and Mabel Snyder, and siblings: Raymond, Juanita, and Theodore.
Survivors include: Daughters, Angela Burdick, and husband, David, Becky Sartory, and husband Mark; grandchildren, Anthony Burdick, and wife Courtney, Kelsey Burdick, Madelyn Smith, and husband Matt, Marissa, and Savannah Sartory; great-grandchildren, Natalie, Owen, and Maggie Burdick and Lillie and Weston Smith.
