Ann was born on March 20, 1925, the daughter of Herman and Honora (Heiman) Mueting. Ann grew up on a farm southwest of Seneca KS attending Diamond Country School and graduated from Centralia High School in 1943. She achieved a degree in nursing from St. Anthony’s Murdock Memorial Hospital, Sabetha, KS in Aug 1946. Ann married Valentine J. Koehler on Jan 6th 1948. They were married for 46 years and had ten children. She worked at Seneca Hospital, Fairbanks Morse Pump Manufacturer, St. Luke’s Hospital and retired in 1987 from North Kansas City Hospital, after 20 years of service.
Ann married John C Hunter on June 30, 2000 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Kansas City, MO. They enjoyed ten years of marriage, bowling, traveling, site-seeing and visiting friends and family before John’s death in 2010.
Ann was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Kansas City, MO. She belonged to the American Business Women Association. Ann’s ABWA chapter named her Woman of the Year in 1982, the same year she was chapter president.
Ann enjoyed traveling, spending time with family and friends, playing cards, cross word puzzles, sudoku, square dancing, bowling, sisters-weeks and going out for pizza and beer as well as going to the casino.
Ann was preceded in death by her husband John Clark Hunter; her parents, Herman Casper and Honora Henrietta (Heiman) Mueting; three brothers: Leonard Mueting, Elmer Mueting, Hubert Mueting; daughter Margaret Koehler; and Valentine J. Koehler, the father of her children.
Ann is survived by nine of her children; Mary Ann (Marlin) Christensen, Viborg, SD; Robert Koehler, Las Vegas NV; Carol Koehler, Kansas City, MO; Daniel (Josephine) Koehler, Kansas City MO; Ruth (Norman Jr.) Schmalz, Kansas City MO; Gwen (Joe) Ascensio, Kansas City, MO; Agnes Koehler, Kansas City MO; Michelle (Tyler) Koch, Overland Park, KS; Marlin (Kim) Koehler, Kansas City MO; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five stepchildren, Bonnie (Gordon) Groves, Roanoke Texas; Susan Hunter, Parker, Co; Patty (Mike), Alamogordo, NM; John (Kim) Hunter, Trophy Club, TX; Mary Beth (Andrew) Bohn, Bettendorf, IA; 11 step grandchildren and nine step great-grandchildren; three sisters: Hermina Hunninghake , Edina, MN; Mary Frances (Joseph) Koch, Baileyville, KS; Honora “Kay” (Gerry) VanPelt, Gulf Port, MS; one brother; Henry (Cheryl) Mueting, Chelsea, MI.
Rosary will be held July 8th at 12:30pm, immediately prior to 1pm Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Family Catholic Church, 919 NE 96th Street Kansas City, Mo 64155. A celebration of life will be held immediately after mass in the parish hall. All friends and family are invited to attend and celebrate Ann’s life.
Her final resting place will be with John Hunter at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in El Paso, TX.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Avonlea Care Home and St Luke’s Northland Hospice. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ann’s memory may be left to St. Luke’s Northland Hospice.
