Amy was born on October 15, 1985 in Cedar Rapids, IA to Roy and Karen DeShon where she lived until 1988 when the family moved to Plattsburg, MO. She was a member of the Science Olympiad team which advanced to the National Tournament three times and played setter on the varsity volleyball team for four years. She graduated from Plattsburg High School in 2004.
In 2008, Amy graduated from Drury University in Springfield, MO with a degree in Advertising and Public Relations. She worked a variety of jobs including at the YMCA through the AmeriCorps program and as Admitting Representative at St. Luke's Hospital.
Amy and Erik Larry were married at the First Baptist Church of Plattsburg on October 4, 2008. She loved watching their four children play sports and teaching them preschool at home. She used her childcare and teaching talents to start Kind & Curious Daycare out of her home in 2018.
Amy was first diagnosed with cancer in 2019 and then again in 2024. Between these episodes, she and Erik traveled with other members of their church on a mission trip to Thailand. She was a dedicated member of Antioch Bible Baptist Church where she taught children in the Awana program.
Amy’s faith was strong and her belief in God’s grace and mercy continued to grow in her last years, despite the trials life gave her. She published the book God Over Cancer: Faith When It’s Ugly after her first battle with cancer.
She was preceded in death by her Step-grandfather and Grandmother Hubert and Eva Foley, and Grandfather Delbert Shipps (Georgia).
She is survived by her husband Erik Larry, children Elijah (13), Eva (11), Emmett (8), Ezekiel (6), parents Roy and Karen DeShon, brother Chad DeShon (Katie), Grandmother Georgia Shipps (Delbert), mother-in-law Shelly Marker, brothers-in-law R.J.
