Ailene Louise Richardson, a beloved mother, grandma and great-grandma, passed away with family by her side on November 22, 2024, at the age of 100. She lived life to the fullest and she brought joy and love to all who knew her.
Ailene was born September 9, 1924 in Columbus, KS to James A. Ward and Edna May (Smith) Ward. She married Ivan K. Richardson on October 30, 1942 and we have faith that she has met her family again in heaven. They moved to Bartlesville and Tulsa, Oklahoma, eventually settling in Parkville, Missouri in 1966. They made a home there where she lived until moving to Benton House of Lenexa in May of 2024 where she enjoyed living out her last month's making new friends, playing games and enjoying activities.
She retired as a baker for Park Hill R5 school district working faithfully for them for 19 years. She was proud of her family, enjoyed crafting, watching birds, camping, gardening, traveling with friends, was a big fan of the Chiefs and Royals, and cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Barry Road Christian Church.
Ailene is preceded in death by her parents, James and Edna Ward; husband, Ivan Richardson; sisters Virginia Anderson, Helen Davidson, Emma Lynn; brother, Jim Ward, and grandson Calvin Moore.
Her memory lives on with her children, Roberta Weeks (Tim), Bert Richardson, Theresa DeCoursey (Ken); sister, Mary Brooner; grandchildren: Shelley, Tim, Brandy, Misti, Cassie (Brandon), Shawna (Craig), and Nick (Jess); great-grandchildren: Zachary, Tim, Johnathan, Felicity, Dominic, Elliana, Mayah, Karson, Selah, Glory, Piper, Phoebe, and Theodore; many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life for Ailene will be held Friday, November 29, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO 64131. Following the celebration of life will be a committal service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Road, Leavenworth, KS 66048.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wayside Waifs to support Ailene’s abounding love of dogs.
