Adeline "Addie" Emma Winslow

She was born on December 22, 1925, in Rice County, Minnesota to Joseph and Emma (Sevcik) Machacek.

“I am grateful that over the years, I have found myself in circumstances that provide opportunities to do things that I have loved doing, and hopefully, justified my existence here”.

Addie grew up during the Great Depression on a farm in Minnesota and from an early age learned the value of family, the importance of service and how to cultivate joy in times of adversity. She played the saxophone in the family band along with her sister Lill, on the accordion and her father, on the drums. They entertained at many weddings and other occasions.

Addie worked for the Voegel’s Creamery in Faribault, MN during and after graduating from High School. She learned how to fly airplanes from the Voegels and upon completion of the training gave rides to families on the weekends for extra money.

Addie married Donald Winslow on February 7th, 1953. They shared a love of their four children, travel, dancing, golf, bridge, politics and service.

Addie was highly regarded for her experience in local, state and national politics. She was a Committeewoman for Kansas City’s 9th Ward for 16 years, was appointed to the Missouri Supreme Court selection Commission, ran for State Representative and was a coordinator of the 1984 Presidential Election in Missouri. She appreciated a spirited debate and respected loved one’s diverging opinions. She led Great Books at St. Elizabeth’s grade school and was a regular volunteer in the classrooms. She was a prolific volunteer and served in many leadership roles for St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marillac School, Little Sisters of the Poor and the St Vincent DePaul Society. She was an Eucharist minister at St. Elizabeth’s and St. Thomas Moore Parishes.

Addie was many things to many people and she more than justified her nearly 99 years here.

Her tenacious and joyful spirit lives on in her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Addie’s family will remember her when eating BBQ (always knowing that Winslow’s BBQ sauce is better than the rest), making snow angels, soaking in the sun with a good book, eating blueberry pancakes, pickles or farm fresh ice cream!

We will miss her smile, her laugh, big hugs, singing and dancing. We know she’s up there flying planes in the snow and cheering on the Chiefs.

Addie is survived by her children, Dave Winslow of Kansas City, MO, Beth (Tom) Baker of Greensboro, NC, Amy (Jerry) Fennesy of Shawnee, KS.; ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Relative, Dennis (Carol) Bateman of Seattle, Washington.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Don, her son, Don Jr, her parents, Joseph and Emma Machacek and her sister, Lillian.

Services will be held on December 28th, 2024 at St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church,10:30am.
