Born October 23, 1946, in Kansas City, Missouri, Tom was the son of the late Daniel J. and Helen B. (Boyle) Byrne of Prairie Village, KS and brother to the late Cynthia A. (Byrne) Corrigan of Tarzana, CA. He is survived by his daughter Janelle (Byrne) Stanley and her husband Neil Stanley of Olathe, KS and three grandchildren, Cailyn and Kinley Crawford and Ralph Stanley, also of Olathe.
Tom graduated from De La Salle High School, served in the Marine Corps Reserves, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Kansas. He spent his career as a sales manager in the wastewater treatment industry where he was retired from Smith & Loveless.
A faithful Christian, Tom was devoted to studying the Bible and connecting to his Lord and Savior alongside his small group of “brothers.” His generosity and lifelong love of learning could be felt by all who knew him, including those who were surprised with a meal during college, an ice cream treat after a game, or an impromptu math lesson featuring fractions or algebraic equations.
He also appreciated hunting, fishing, and other sports. Much time was spent at dawn or dusk in a remote tree stand with a particular fondness for the beauty of western Kansas sunsets. Tom proudly cheered on the KU Jayhawk men’s basketball team, played and coached softball for many years, and carried on the strong Byrne family legacy on Kansas City golf courses.
Most of all, Tom loved people. Researching genealogy, staying connected, and sharing memories with his beloved extended circle of family and friends kept him happy, especially in his final years.
Details for an open house to celebrate Tom’s life will be added here soon.
