Sherry was born on February 20th, 1945 in Rapid City, SD to Loren F. and Mildred Seger. The family later moved to Florissant, MO, where she lived with her parents and brother, Loren Michael Seger.
Sherry graduated High School and then followed Mildred’s footsteps into the career of Nursing. Sherry graduated from De Paul University as a Registered Nurse and began her career with Research Medical Center, located in Kansas City, MO, in 1968.
In 1970 Sherry moved to DeSoto, KS, where she became the unofficial “resident neighborhood nurse”. This is where Sherry raised her four children: Michael, Chris, Tony, and Jessie (Rice) Bussell. Sherry was a devoted and loving mother. Her strength was immeasurable as she raised these four children on her own as a single parent, while still balancing a successful career.
In 1972, Sherry was hired as an RN by what was then known as Olathe Community Hospital. Sherry was instrumental in the growth of this hospital, which is now known as Olathe Medical Center. During her career at OMC, Sherry would know this as a second family and develop lifelong friends. Sherry’s specialty was Orthopedics. She was able to attain the position of Director of 2 North (the Orthopedics Unit) until her retirement in 2005. Sherry was most proud that she had had a part in hiring “the best of the best Nurses in the Kansas City Metro. She was also proud of the work family she had made over the years.
Sherry is preceded in death by her parents and brother, as well as her faithful service dog and companion, Dovie.
Sherry was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children; Michael (Laura) Bussell, Chris (Lisa) Bussell, Tony (Amy) Bussell, and Jessie (Reggie) Rice. Sherry is also survived by her grandchildren; Alex Bussell, Katelyn Bussell, Austin Bussell, Abby Bussell, Justice Bussell, Samantha Bussell, and Beau Bussell; step-grandchildren: Jacob (Jess) Mruskovich and Kat Mruskovich. She also had two step-great grandchildren that she loved deeply, Hudson and Mickey Mruskovich.
Sherry’s dedication to her family and friends was only second to her faith in the Lord. Her strength and love will live on, as her fight is finally over.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Church of the Holy Cross, 8311 W. 93rd St., Overland Park, Kansas 66212. Interment will be immediately following in Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the American Diabetes Association. www.diabetes.org/donate
