Michael was born August 16, 1955 in KCK to Thomas and Dottie Spears. He graduated from Schlagle High School and married the love of his life, Rhonda Swisher, on November 30, 1974. Mike worked at GATX for a short time and then landed a job at Colgate Palmolive for 25 years and was a member of the United Steelworkers Union Local #11-114. He worked in various positions and retired in 2006 as a FAN Technician. He then worked for BNSF Railroad as a Journeyman Boilermaker and was a part of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Union Local #34. Mike was a very active member and Elder at Grandview Park Presbyterian Church. He was a very devoted family man. He would often go camping or other activities that his family loved, even though he would much rather be in a nice air-conditioned room watching the next science fiction movie. Mike was an active man who enjoyed riding motorcycles when he was younger. He also played baseball, soccer, and bike riding. Mike was a good man who was always willing to help and very easily made friends. He encouraged his three children and served for a few years as an Assistant Scoutmaster in his son's Boy Scout Troop. Mike loved working with his hands and reading. He was very proud of each of his children and loved spending time with them and his grandchildren. Mike will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Dottie Spears and his brother-in-law, Michael Wiglesworth.
Mike is survived by his wife of 39 years, Rhonda Spears; his daughter, Amy Ramirez-Spears (Jon); his son, Darrick Spears (Jennifer); his daughter, Natalie Neri (Oscar); and his grandson whom he helped raise, Joseph Euler; other grandchildren, Benjamin Ramirez-Spears, Agatha Ramirez-Spears, Jackson Spears, Kayla Spears, and Rosalyn Neri; his siblings, Marjorie Wiglesworth, Thomas Spears, Jr. (Muriel), Paula DeGraw (Frank) and Janet King (John).
