Michael William Boland III of Wichita, Kansas passed away on Monday, March 18, 2024, in Wichita, Kansas. He was 54 years old. Visitation will be held on March 27, 2024, from 11:30 am - 12:00 pm. The funeral service to follow at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112. Interment will follow at 1:30 pm, at the Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Rd, Leavenworth, Kansas 66048 with full United States Navy Honors.
Pastor Robin Dale of Elm Springs Baptist Church will officiate the service.
Michael was born on April 18, 1969, in Kansas City, Kansas. Michael attended and graduated from Hickman Mills High School in Kansas City, Missouri. After graduating, Michael tried to find his skills in the workplace and decided to join the U.S. Navy on September 2, 1987.
Michael was awarded the following Decorations:
Armed Forces, Expeditionary Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Battle “E” Ribbon, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (2), Navy Achievement (2), Meritorious Unit Commendation (Michael found his many skills in the U.S. Navy) Michael served on the famous aircraft carrier, USS Ranger on the flight deck, where he said, “where all the action was”.
After his “retirement” from the Navy, Mike got his CDL and worked in the construction field driving concrete trucks and driving 18 wheelers over the road, which he enjoyed. For the approximate last twelve years, Mike was on total disability.
He is survived by his parents, Jimmy and Betty Kirby; sisters Debra Cone (Eddie), Gloria Kirby; nieces Faith Cone, Gloria Gillespie (Gabe); daughters Hannah Boland, Rachael Boland. Michael was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Frank and Mary Devine, and paternal grandparents, Wilbur and Betty Kirby.
