Michael M. Ames

Michael M. Ames, 68, of Overland Park, KS, passed away suddenly on August 29, 2013. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wed., Sept. 4th at Chapel Hill-Butler, 701N. 94th St., KCK. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Thursday, September 5th at the funeral home. Interment with Honors will follow the services in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Contributions may be made to American Legion Post 327, 7413 Goddard, Overland Park, KS 66203.

Mike was born December 10, 1944 to Francis and Caroline Ames. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War. Mike married Billie Lemmon on December 28, 1968 and they enjoyed 23 years of marriage before her passing in 1991. Mike has worked in the drywall industry for many years; he owned his own company, Mike Ames Drywall and then worked for Ferguson Drywall Inc. as a construction manager since 1991. He played hockey in his younger years and had a passion for cars, shooting and watersports. Mike’s family said that he was an amazing cook and could prepare anything you could think of.

He was preceded in death by his wife Billie Ames, his mother, Caroline Ames, his in-laws, William and Anita Lemmon and his uncle Donnin Ames.

Mike is survived by his father, Francis “Ace” Ames of Overland Park, KS; son, Alex Ames and his fiancé Tammy of KCK; son, Nick Ames of KCK; sister, Michelle Leeson of Lawrence, KS; as well as many other relatives and friends.
