James (Jim) Leroy Shafer was born February 20, 1942, to Joe and Lois Shafer in Nevada, Missouri. He passed away surrounded by his loving wife and family on July 6th, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his step-brother, Gerald Kiger.
He received his formal education in Eldorado Kansas, where he resided most of his childhood years. In 1960, he relocated to Kansas City, Kansas, where he met the love of his life, Marla Jo (Coniglio) Shafer, and was happily married in 1986. Jim ran a successful business, Shafer Salvage, Inc. No work was too hard for this man. He was a tough guy with a warm and loving heart.
Jim and Marla loved hosting many barbecues and pool parties that were very memorable to all. Everyone who knew him enjoyed his company. He was knowledgeable on every subject that could come up. His love for the Huskies, Mika, and Sasha was unmatched. He was a Rhythm & Blues aficionado and enjoyed listening to his favorite artists. As his health declined over the years, he would surprise everyone with his uncanny ability to always bounce back from the excellent care of his determined and loving wife. His struggle has now come to an end. The family’s hearts are heavy and he will be forever missed.
