Helen Frances (Fox) Parker, 75, Kansas City, Kansas passed away January 1, 2019. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St., Kansas City, Kansas. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to ASPCA or any pet rescue organization.
Helen was born on May 27, 1943 in Miami, Oklahoma. Her parents were Laura Genevra (Hamilton) Fox and Orville Wesley Fox, who served in the trenches of WWI. Her Hamilton grandfolk came from northern Missouri in a covered wagon to help settle the Indian Territory in Oklahoma, before it was a state. Both have preceded her into heaven. She was an only child.
Helen is survived by her husband of 49 years, Douglas L. Parker (Doug) of the home in Kansas City, Kansas.
Helen and Doug’s only kids both wore cat fur and were Boots “Rumbles” MacPurr Parker and Fluffy Tiger Parker, who blessed them for eighteen and seventeen years before being assigned to patrol around the golden throne in the skies. Watch out mice!!
Helen graduated from Northeastern A&M Junior College in Miami, OK, Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK and was then awarded her Master’s in Library Science from Emporia State University, Emporia, Kansas, as Mrs. Helen (Fox) Parker, soon after she and Doug were married.
Helen and Doug met at a Labor Day singles camp at Elmdale, KS through her girlfriend. Elmdale is south of Emporia. They were then married on June 28, 1969 in her home church, First Presbyterian Church in Miami, OK as the sun was shining through the stained glass windows in front of families and friends from both of their families across the country. They honeymooned in the Ozarks and settled back in Wichita, KS.
Helen taught Library at Derby, KS, southeast of Wichita. After hours, she enjoyed jumping on the trampoline. Later they returned to Kansas City, KS where she first taught after college in Kansas City, KS and later at the Turner School District, also in Kansas City, KS. After a time in private industry, she was an Acquisitions Librarian at Kansas City Kansas Community College, from where she retired.
Helen enjoyed watching the Royals, Chiefs, Oklahoma Sooners and the Cowboys.
