Elaine Karnes, 75, of Basehor, KS, passed away August 31, 2016 at home surrounded by family. A visitation will be held from 1:00-2:00pm, Saturday, September 3rd, with funeral services at 2:00pm, at Chapel Hill – Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, KS 66112. Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
Elaine was born March 24, 1941 in Wheatland, MO to Harold and Maxine Staten. She attended Wyandotte High School. Elaine worked for Fagan’s Café, Crouch Meat Company and retired as a bus driver for the Kansas City, Kansas public schools. She was a single mother of four, she always worked hard to provide for her family and give them the best life she could. Elaine was a bit of a homebody and would prefer to stay home watching her beloved Royals, Chiefs and KU Basketball. She loved to cook and talk politics and she enjoyed watching hummingbirds whenever she could. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her children, Lorie Crouch (Patrick), Fred Karnes (Janet), Terri Gibson (Robert), and Sandy Kiper (Rick); her honorary daughter, Keeli King; her thirteen grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; as well as her brother, Terry Staten (Janet); two sisters, Sharon Nirschl (Terry), and Linda Lea (Jim) and many other relatives and friends.
