Edward “Ed” Henry Johansen, 85, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2016. Ed was born in Reserve, Kansas to Forrest and Ruth (Metzger) Johansen. He graduated from Reserve High School in 1950 and attended a small church in Hiawatha as well as Fall City Nazarene. Ed helped out on the family farm while growing up and on November 10, 1950, he married Betty Joan Bowen. In January of 1952, Ed joined the United States Army and served in the Korean War. Upon his return, he worked as a mechanic with his brother at a local gas station and shortly after, he and his family moved to Kansas City where Ed worked at Electro Bumper before starting his own trucking company, Johansen Trucking where he worked until retirement in 1999. In his free time, Ed took part in a coffee club with Betty at McDonalds, a CB Radio Club, and the Studebaker Club. He enjoyed hunting coon and deer, going to the rodeo, country music as well as southern gospel, dogs and other animals and was a song leader at his church. Most of all, Ed loved his family and God and was always considered a friend to everyone.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Ruth; two brothers, Keith and Ken Johansen; and a sister, Betty (Johansen) Pape. Those he leaves behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Betty Joan of Kansas City, Kansas; daughter, Rhonda Johansen of Kansas City, Kansas; three sons, Rodney Johansen and wife Becky of Lawrence, Kansas, Norman Johansen and wife Pat of Olathe, Kansas and Earl Johansen and wife Susan of Kansas City, Kansas; 11 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Bob Johansen and wife Darlene of Robinson, Kansas; sister, Nellie (Johansen) Liberty of Platte City, Missouri as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held Friday, April 22nd from 6:00-8:00PM at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Saturday, April 23rd at 10:30AM at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home followed by Interment with Military Honors in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
