Charles E. Grabeal, affectionately known as “Charlie,” passed away on Saturday, June 15, 2024, in LaCygne, Kansas, at the age of 94, surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 13, 1929, to Clarence and Addie Grabeal, Charlie grew up with his two sisters, Evelyn and Lois.
On August 11, 1950, he married Carolyn Sue Arnold, with whom he shared a long and happy life. Together, they had three daughters: Debra, who passed away at birth, Cindi Diane, and Danna Joanne. Charlie is survived by two granddaughters, Chantal Lynn and Ashleigh Ryan, as well as several great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and several adopted family members whom he loved dearly.
Charlie, also known as “Poppy,” led a rich and varied life. He excelled in numerous jobs, showcased his musical talent in a band, and was renowned for his skills with stringed instruments and particularly phenomenal on the harmonica. A true cowboy at heart, he built his own home and had a deep love for horses and mules. Family watermelon picnics were among his favorite pastimes. Charlie’s presence was uplifting, his wit and humor making every moment enjoyable. Charlie never met a stranger in life and everyone who met him instantly fell in love with him and his presence.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 21, 2024, at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th Street, Kansas City, KS 66112. Visitation will take place from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by the service at 11:00 AM and a graveside service thereafter.
