Augusta “Gussie” Josephine Poje, age 90, of Lenexa, KS passed away on Saturday, November 27, 2021. Gussie was born August 27, 1931, in Conception, MO as the 8th of twelve children of John Meyer and Anna Eickholt Meyer. A Celebration of Life for Gussie will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, December 11, 2021 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1086 N. 94th St., Kansas City, Kansas 66112. A gravesite prayer will be immediately following in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to Lakeview Village Foundation, 9100 Park Street, Lenexa, Kansas 66215. Memo line: "Community Garden-Gussie Poje"
Gussie moved to Kansas City and became a registered nurse, working at Providence-St. Margret Hospital; Kansas City, KS Health Dept.; and Piper School District in Kansas City, KS.
Gussie was an avid gardener her entire life and blessed many with fruits, vegetables, apple pies, and canned items. In retirement, she entertained many people at her lake home and loved to play cards and board games.
Gussie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Anna Meyer; and husband Joe Poje, son Pat Poje, grandson Joshua Poje, and siblings Amelia Meyer, Martha Stoll, Rita Fisher, Roger Meyer, Linus Meyer, Ursula Dunzer, Herman Meyer, and Viola Ginther.
Survivors include her children, Phil (Lori) Poje, Tim Poje (Kelly) Poje, Tom (Lori) Poje, Dan Poje; and 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Other survivors include her siblings, Joan Runde, Stephen Meyer, and Victor Meyer.
