The only human in the world that ate sashimi with ketchup on his rice has died at the age of 91. John Calhoun Johnson known best as "J.C." and lovingly as "Papa" by his family, was a fervent storyteller, avid UH Rainbow Warrior fan, New Mui Kwai chop suey lover, a Las Vegas enthusiast and the proud and devoted husband to a spitfire lady, Leilehua Keanini, who preceded him in death in 2010. Together in their Kailua home they would raise three children but JC's true joy came in the form of grandchildren. He and his wallet loved and spoiled each of them!
Hailing from Kapahulu, Oahu, J.C. was the sixth of seven children (older sisters- Havanna, Gwen, Susan and Nita, older brother, Nonnie and younger brother, Ritchie) born to Harry Johnson and Susan Kalepa Johnson. Growing up he was especially close to his older brother, Nonnie, who took him wherever he went. All except Gwen preceded him in death. The talk was continuous and hours felt like minutes whenever all the siblings would gather. This continued in later years with visits by Gwen, who would watch televised UH football games with J.C.
Sharing was J.C.'s love language especially in the form of food. Parties were always filled with great spreads - enough to feed small villages, yet J.C. wouldn't have it any other way.
J.C. will be remembered with Aloha by his family he loved so much including sister, Gwendolyn Young, daughters -Keano (Dean), Kauanoe and Girlie, and son - Wayne Keanini of Maui (Wendy). Eight grandchildren and their spouses and 12 great grandchildren! Also cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be held on Sunday, January 29th - Hawaiian Memorial Park at 45-425 Kamehameha Hwy in Kaneohe. Viewing from 9:30a - 11:00a. Services at 11:00a and burial at 2:00p.
We Love you Papa! Families are Forever❤.
