Verne was born in Shoal Lake, Manitoba the day before the stock market crash of 1929. He and his parents moved to Vancouver and after graduating from high school, Verne joined the RCMP. Verne had many postings around the country throughout his service. He met Carol in Prince George, they were married in 1958, and after 35 years he retired from the RCMP in Vernon in 1983. Verne spent several summers working with the Vernon Army Cadet Camp, running the canoe camp on the Shuswap River near Enderby. Verne also worked for the BC Coroner’s Service until 1995.
Verne was an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed yearly hunting trips all though his life and he snowmobiled regularly until three years ago. Several times this summer, Verne managed to get out into the bushes on his ATV.
Verne was the epitome of a gentleman and a family man. He was devoted to his children and his granddaughters. We will miss you Dad.
Verne’s family would like to express our heartfelt and sincere thanks to the staff at Chartwell Ridgepointe, the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice and Dr. Robert Baker, you all helped make Dad’s final journey a gentle one.
