It's with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Meta Nicolson (nee Hiebert) on January 21, 2022. Meta was predeceased in 2017 by her husband of 55 years, Cecil Nicolson and her daughter, Lynda in 2002. She is survived by her son Wayne (Daphne) and her grandchildren who lovingly knew her as Granny; Leah (Dan), Peter, Kassia (Logan) and Jacob. Meta was born in 1934 in Park Valley, Saskatchewan. She is the eldest sister of Orville and Margaret.
As a teen, she came to live in Burnaby, graduated from Burnaby South and began a career with BC Tel, eventually retiring in 1989. Mum and dad married in 1962 and a few years later started a family. Mum stayed home and created memories with us; cooking, baking, camping, crafting, just to name a few.
They lived in north Surrey for 32 years before moving to Chilliwack. Wherever they lived, mum loved gardening and instilled a love of nature in her family.
After retiring, mum and dad enjoyed travelling throughout Canada and the US in their RV, meeting friends and relatives all over. They often flew to Orkney and Scotland to visit friends and relatives there. Mum loved to maintain connections with those she loved whether it meant a visit, a phone call or a card on a birthday. Throughout her life she had an amazing memory and could be counted on to recall names, birthdays and details of events; truly amazing!
Mum spent her last few months enjoying life in Kamloops with Wayne and Daphne. Many evenings were spent listening to her stories of days gone by. She requested a Pink Lady cocktail on her 88th birthday. She said it reminded her of going out with her friends in the 1950's! She was active and vibrant until her last days. She is truly loved and will be deeply missed.
