Marilyn Callaghan

On July 14, 2024, Marilyn Rose (Bedard) Callaghan of Kamloops, B.C., got her wings and went to walk with the angels. Her final days were spent peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. Marilyn was known for her huge heart, welcoming nature, and infectious smile. She was a central figure in her children's, grandchildren's, and great-grandchildren's lives. Marilyn was the biological mother of three daughters, but many considered her their surrogate ‘mom’. She cared deeply for her family and friends, always offering help and ensuring the well-being of everyone who crossed her threshold.

Marilyn was born to Eugene and Evelyn Bedard on July 22, 1938. She was 85 years old. She was raised and lived her entire life in Kamloops. She often spoke of her family home on the corner of 4th Avenue and St. Paul Street, where she spent her early years. The family moved again when Marilyn was a teenager to 10th and Nicola. From there, Marilyn lived in various locations around Kamloops until settling on Columbia Street, where she raised her three girls.

Marilyn began her working career in various banks in Kamloops. She stopped to have children, then returned to work with the jail service and onto Legal Aid as the main office administrative assistant/receptionist. She worked at Legal Aid until her retirement at age 65.

She is survived by her daughters: Patti (Kevin) Giesbrecht, Deb (Gord) Piggin, and Judy (Joe) Caputo; grandchildren: David (Erin), Alicia, Lindsey (Peter), Taylor (Alex), Emma, Brooklyn, and Madeline; great-grandchildren: Jorden, Jaida, Zoe, Rhea, Dylan, Preston, Abby, Lilly, Thomas, and Edwin.

All who knew her will dearly miss Marilyn. Marilyn’s family asks that she be remembered for the joy she brought to others in life and not the sadness of her passing. A memorial service will be held on August 10, 2024, at The Old Yacht Club at 1140 River street, Kamloops, B.C., from 2-4 pm.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Memorial Hospice would be appreciated.
