Helen McMillan, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Saturday, April 20, 2013. She is deeply mourned by her loving husband, Archie McMillan, by her four children Carole (Ron) Sine, David (Diana), Brian (Cindy), and Ian McMillan, and by her grandchildren Ryan, Christine, Ian, Kimberley, Helen, Zoe, Aleksander and Felix.
She was born on June 22, 1926, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the elder daughter of Alex and Mary McNaught, but lived her childhood and early adult years in her parents’ home town of Largs, Scotland. She met the love of her life, Archie, one fine summer evening at the Moorings in Largs, and they were married on September 30, 1950. Soon after, they sailed the Atlantic and emigrated to Canada, settling first in Vancouver and then in Kamloops, where they raised their family and spent their retirement years. Helen and Archie were inseparable during a lifetime and 62 years of devoted marriage together.
Helen was a kind and modest wife and mother who always put her family before herself, and appreciated even the smallest kindness in others. Her quiet strength, inner beauty and eternal optimism will be fondly remembered and cherished by all.
Friends and acquaintances are invited to a Celebration of her life at Schoening Funeral Service on Wednesday, April 24, at 3 pm.
