Bob was born May 3, 1930, in Fairhaven, Massachusetts to Hester Lewis Lawton and Robert Carleton Lawton. He attended Northeastern University, Boston University and received his MBA from the University of Detroit. He served in the US Army during the Korean War from 1950-1952. His business career included employment with Chrysler Corporation, Ford Motor Company, Minneapolis Moline, and he retired as president of Steego Parts Corporation in 1989.
Bob and his wife Mary of 43 years resided in the Tequesta, FL area for 34 years before moving to Madison, GA in 2006. In 2015, Bob and Mary returned to Florida to live in Hobe Sound and enjoy the glorious weather, golf and dear friends.
Bob was a member and Treasurer of Turtle Creek Club in Tequesta where he enjoyed playing golf and gin rummy. He was a student of the stock market, an avid reader, and enjoyed bowling and softball. He was a committed volunteer for organizations including Madison-Morgan County Boys & Girls Club and AARP Foundation’s Tax-Aide Program. During his time in GA he was a member of the Madison Presbyterian Church and while in Florida, Bob was a member of Jupiter First Church. In keeping with his hard working personality, one of his proudest accomplishments was guiding the construction of his cherished Jupiter First Church in 2004 and 2005.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters Anne Lawton Marriner and Barbara Jane Lawton Kenyon.
Bob lived and loved life to the fullest. He will be greatly missed by his surviving family, wife Mary Lawton, children, Dr. Rodger Lawton (Melissa) of Olympia, WA; Robin Hunter of Houston, TX; Andrew Shyers (Hilde Stubdal) of Oakland, CA and Amy Freeland (Scott) of Decatur, GA. He is survived by his six grandchildren: Matthew & Nicole Lawton, Kelsey & Emily Hunter, Wesley Freeland and Kallie Kidder.
A memorial service will be held at Jupiter First Church, 1475 Indian Creek Parkway, Jupiter, FL 33458 on July 20, 2016 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to:
