Born in Casper, Wyoming on July 9th, 1945, Mary came to Kansas City as a young child. She was one of five children of Helen Fritton Hughes and Joseph Rowland Hughes.
Mary was raised in Kansas City where she attended Visitation grade school and Notre Dame de Sion high school. She graduated from Baker University where she received a Bachelor of Arts in Art and Education.
Mary taught art in grade school for several years.
With her first husband, Kenneth Eppert, Mary moved to Chicago and then Allentown, PA. Eventually, she moved to West Palm Beach, FL. where she had a career with AllianceBernstein until her retirement.
She was remarried in 2010 to David Norr and they lived in Jupiter, FL.
Mary is survived by her husband, David, her son, Kenneth Eppert of Jupiter, FL, her daughter in law, Jennifer Eppert and Mary’s two grandchildren, Jonas Eppert and Rebecca Eppert all of the Richmond, VA area. She is also survived by her husband’s two sons, Eric Norr of Portland OR and Kevin Norr of Wilmington, NC and their families. Mary is also survived by her two brothers, John Hughes of Vienna, VA, William Hughes of Houston, TX, and her two sisters, Rebecca Colburn of Pacific Grove, CA, and Lindsay Major of Kansas City, and many nieces and nephews who affectionately called her aunt "Tookey."
Mary was an artist, a fine pianist, and a great organizer with a gift for detail and precision. One of her projects was the planning of a family reunion for forty-five people in 2022, which she was unable to attend because of her illness with cancer. She had a remarkable, positive outlook on life.
Mary was an active member of Al-anon and took great pleasure in her activities of sponsorship in that organization.
She was a generous and beautiful soul, and will be profoundly missed by her devoted family and many friends.
A Memorial Service gathering is planned for 2 pm on January 20th at Holy Spirit Lutheran Church in Juno Beach, FL. The code to access the church’s live-stream of the service will be available after January 15th; contact a family member for the code after January 15th.
