It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that our family is sharing the death of a beloved son, brother and father, Corey Aurand, who passed suddenly on April 24, 2023 as a result of a vehicle accident in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Corey was born July 5th, 1968 in Van Nuys, CA to his parents Bill and Julie Aurand. Corey was raised in Simi Valley, CA where he attended Garden Grove Elementary, Sequoia Junior High School and graduated from Simi Valley High School in 1986. Corey was active in his youth playing multiple sports in the community. His real love, passion and drive was for the game of baseball. With a great supporting cast of friends and teammates, Corey played on one of the top high school teams in the country his senior year. His eventual goal, like many on that team, was to play Division I baseball at a university. His path to that goal initially started at Moorpark College where he was an All-League player, and he would earn a scholarship to play at USC for legendary coach Mike Gillespie. Corey lettered in baseball at USC from 1989-1991 and hit .318, played center field and infield when needed on Pac-12 Championship Trojan team. Corey proudly graduated with a Communications Degree from USC in 1991.
While playing baseball and going to school, Corey also developed great relationships and a passion for the game of golf at an early age inspired by his grandfather. Corey schooled and became a PGA Teaching Professional, worked in the industry for many years, and eventually joined a group of land and golf developers, under the mentorship of eventual PGA President Brian Whitcomb. Corey had strong-work ethic, impressive relational currency, and business savvy. He would later join an ownership group who helped design, develop, and build several top golf courses and land developments throughout Arizona, Oregon and eventually, in Colorado. It was in the Denver area that he and his group of friends established the prestigious Bear Dance Golf Club, which became the home of the Colorado PGA. His success in golf and business later took him to Florida where he became the Director of PGA Properties in West Palm Beach. Corey helped run a team to rebuild the Florida PGA home and most recently has worked as a success manager in the West Palm Beach real estate industry for NV Realty Group.
At 41 and in 2010, Corey suffered a stroke and had many challenges to overcome physically. He continually met those challenges and marched on in life despite the setback and was great father. Corey’s pride and joy in life were his two children, Connor who is 19 and Logan 13. From encouraging Conner’s musical ambitions and Logan’s love for golf and basketball, along with other activities, Corey was extremely proud to be a father and loved spending time with his boys in any adventure. Corey was a great brother, son, and uncle, a loyal friend, and a great teammate to many and will truly be missed.
Corey is survived by his two children, Connor Aurand and Logan Aurand (mother Tiffany Bateman); his parents, William and Julie Aurand; brothers, Christian (wife Brenda, son Chase Aurand) and Darren Aurand (son Tanner Aurand) and sister, Amy Holland (husband Brian, children Brandon and Shane Cotter).
He was a shining light in our lives and will forever be missed.
