Maxine was born in Charleston, South Carolina on October 10, 1935. She is the daughter of the late Emmett and Maude Averett. She was married to her late loving husband Enon for 57 years. Her son Lee, husband Enon and three siblings Chris Irving, Ike Averett and Eleanor Walker preceded her in death.
The Georgia Baptist Children’s Home is where Maxine grew up. She shared many fond childhood memories over the years that were made at GBCH.
Maxine created lifelong brother and sisterhood friendships during her years at the home. She was an active member of the GBCH Alumni Group for most of her adult life. Maxine was employed by Chick-Fil-A for 29 years and loved working there.
Maxine was a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She could light up a room with her witty sense of humor and her feisty spirit. She was an excellent cook and she enjoyed cooking for her family.
Maxine took pride in being able to stretch a dime into a dollar. She was always well informed because she read the AJC daily newspaper from cover to cover.
Maxine had a beautiful voice and she sang praises to her lord right up to the end of her life.
Maxine is survived by five children, Kathy Cox of Jonesboro, Georgia, Cheran Sims of Jonesboro, Georgia, John Sims of Stockbridge, Georgia , Patti Insinna of McDonough, Georgia and Tim Sims of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. She was blessed with twelve grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
