Mary Pauline Benton, 90, found peace and health in the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 22, 2011 in Austell, GA.
Pauline was born August 5, 1921 in Pelham, GA. She grew up in Ochlocknee, GA, where she attended school and in 1940 married D. L. Benton, Jr. A devoted military wife and mother, Pauline travelled the world with her husband and children and later settled in Fayetteville, GA where she was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. Her greatest achievements were her marriage of 61 years and being the mother of her 4 children.
Pauline is survived by her children Lieutenant General David L. Benton, III and wife Nancy of Powder Springs, GA; Eugene Charles Benton and wife Bess of Fayetteville, GA; James Philip Benton and wife Shirley of Alpharetta, GA; and daughter Patricia Benton Rissman and husband Bill of McKinney, TX. Her grandchildren include Chuck and Scott Beasley, Nancy Lindsay, Stephanie Chapman, Mary Lynn Savelle, Rich Rissman and great-children Ben and Jude Lindsay. She is also survived by her loving brother James Elwell. Those who knew and loved Pauline admired what a strong woman she was, always working hard to care for her husband and family. She valiantly she fought her battle with aging, but in the end, death was her victory. The family wishes to thank the many friends, doctors, nurses and caregivers who comforted us and helped God take our mother home gently.
The family will receive visitors at a celebration of life which will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Arbor Terrace of West Cobb, 3829 Floyd Road, Austell, GA. A private graveside service will be held at Sherwood Memorial Park in Jonesboro, GA. Tara Garden Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements 770-471-7171.
