She was a Christian and Godly woman of Faith. We know she is having a homecoming and celebration with our Lord and Savior. She instilled her love of God in her children. She was an active member of First Christian Church of Forest Park Georgia.
She is survived by her daughter, Jan Ayers Nicholson (Dennis); her son, Ronald Edwin Ayers; her brother, John H. Vickery; grandsons, Michael Anthony Ayers and Christopher Edwin Ayers; granddaughters, Samantha Nicholson Brown (Matt) and Emily Ann Nicholson; great grandchildren, Hayley Ayers, Jayden Ayers and Travis Ayers; great great granddaughter, Alaina Grace Ayers; niece, Joan Vickery Busbee.
She is predeceased by her loving husband of 35 years, Travis Edwin Ayers; her mother, Doshia Olevia Gordon Vickery; her father, James Crannel Vickery; her brother, James Harold Vickery; grandparents, Wiley Joseph Vickery and Georgia Ann Buffington Vickery, William Cicero De Graffenried Gordon and Julia Ann Martin Gordon; step brothers and step sisters; numerous nieces and nephews.
She was Born January 1, 1933 in Danielsville, GA. Travis was in the Navy and home from the Korean War. He came home looking very dapper in his uniform and swept her off her feet. They were married on November 8, 1955. Travis worked as a Barber at Reed’s Barber Shop. He soon went to work at Southern Saw Service. She was a loving wife and mother of two. She was home with her children until they grew older. She began working at Southern Saw Services as a Lab Technician until her retirement from the company.
She enjoyed cooking, traveling and quilting. She was always on the go! Slowing down long enough to enjoy her grandchildren. She loved life, was very outgoing and never met a stranger. Her smile would light up a room and her laugh was very contagious. To know her was to love her!
Visitation will be held at Tara Garden Chapel in Jonesboro, GA on Monday, October 26 from 5-8pm. Funeral Services will be held at Tara Garden Chapel in Jonesboro, GA on Tuesday, October 27 at 11am. Burial Services immediately following at Sherwood Memorial Cemetery.
