Amanda Diane Cordova was born in Atlanta, GA on August 26, 1987. She was the firstborn and she loved her family fiercely! Her Dad, Mark, was her hero and her Mom, Melissa (who passed in 2013) was her world. She was very protective of her Bubby, Anthony. She was her Nana’s (Teresa) baby and Aunt Tracy was her biggest cheerleader. Amanda has many Aunts, Uncles, and cousins whom she adored as well. Tiffany became one of her best friends….she called Amanda her Big Sis. She loved having slumber parties with Hannah, and she loved babysitting her sidekick, Piper and Tiffany’s boys! Of course, Hunter the dog (affectionately known as Woofie) was her buddy too.
She and her family were introduced to The Salvation Army when she was approximately ten years old. They were invited to VBS by Majors Gary & Beth Sturdivant. Soon after they began attending youth programs during the week and then on Sunday’s as well. Amanda was a very shy and quiet girl. However, as she grew older and became more involved in her church, God used her family and some very special people to help her try new things.
She loved her church and the people of the Jonesboro Citadel Corps became her extended family. It was there that she met Kathryn. And although they didn’t click at first, they soon became best friends, inseparable at the Corps and throughout life. It was during her teen years that she started volunteering with the After School Program, became a Crew Leader during Summer Day Camp (nick named the “Gorilla with an Attitude), was a nursery helper, Moonbeam Leader and Sunbeam Assistant Leader on youth nights, worked at The Salvation Army’s Camp Grandview in Jasper, GA as a dining room attendant and girls counselor for several summers, drove the bus for Kettles, volunteered with the Angel Tree Program every Christmas, helped with meal prep for Corps functions, and so much more!
Amanda learned how to play the guitar (but only the electric guitar because it was way cooler) and joined the Praise Band for Sunday Worship. She was a Jr. Soldier, Sr. Soldier, Graduate Corps Cadet, and Girl Guard. She even won the Catherine Booth Award and was crowned Princess Akikoka one summer at Girl Guard Camp!
Amanda was kind, funny, stubborn, selfless, sarcastic, loving, and gentle (except when she pinched…she learned that from her Momma!), and was a true friend. She enjoyed movies (Marvel and fantasy) and loved spending time with her Dad watching a good movie. She loved to read and listen to music (her favorite bands were My Chemical Romance, Black Bell Bride, and Iron Maiden). Her favorite colors were black and red….boy did she love wearing black!
She loved hanging out with her friends and family, spending time at the Corps, going to Little Five Points, and most definitely, Medieval Times! She liked to cook and knew how to make a mean lasagna. And after her Mom passed, she carried on the tradition of making Peanut Butter Pie every Thanksgiving for her cousin Piper.
Best of all, Amanda loved God. Her faith was unwavering, and she loved sharing God’s love, especially with children. Amanda was one-of-a-kind and will be greatly missed! Thank you for your continued prayers for her family and friends.
