He was born to the late Forest and Florence Cross (Kirts) at their home in Croton, Ohio on January 6th, 1935. Ted, as most people called him, graduated from Hartford High School in 1953 where he played center on the football team. After graduating, Ted worked as a carpenter to support his growing family. He was the proud father of Deborah (John) Tripp and Sharon (Bruce) Smart and adopted children Bill and Cathy Rausch. He was happy to be grandfather to Rusty (Brandi) Smart, Christy (Adam) Meigs, Sandy (Forrest) Swancy, Jessica Tripp and the late Taylor Tripp (Sean) McNamee. He was especially happy to be great grandfather to Reagan and Gannon Smart, Jasmine Swancey, Treston Glenn, Rontay Taylor, and Arial and Mason McNamee.
Ted loved working with his hands. Anything from building cabinets and furniture for friends and family to restoring antique cars. He was particularly fond of Woody station wagons which allowed him to use his incredible skill as a carpenter. He built his and Donna’s forever home from the ground up after retiring in 2001.
Ted was a member of many clubs including the Land of Legend tractor club, Alexander Buckeyes, Vintage Chevrolet Car Club, and Woody Car Club.
Ted loved to vacation with family and friends. He pulled the family fifth wheel camper to many campsites across the United States. He also loved to take his boat out during the summer so everyone could water ski.
Ted took up golf at the young age of 71. He enjoyed going to Hillcrest golf course almost every day with his friend Bob Hatten.
Ted was preceded in death by his mother, Florence Cross; father, Forest Cross, and brother, Paul Jay Cross.
He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Cross; daughter, Deborah (John) Tripp, Sharon (Bruce) Smart; brother-in-law, Keith (Barb) Kaufeld, and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
