Robert B. Thomas, age 78, of Johnstown, OH, passed away at Riverside Methodist Hospital on Wednesday, March 26, 2014. He was born June 30, 1935 in Slovan, PA to the late Bruno G. and Elizabeth (Pinter) Thomas. He graduated from Union High School in Burgettstown, PA where he served as class president. He then earned a B.A. from Findlay College, (now University of Findlay), and an M.A. from Xavier University. He served 2 years in the U.S. Army. He taught and coached in the Pandora, New Albany and Johnstown-Monroe schools and then taught at the Know County Career Center until his retirement. He was a longtime, active and involved member of the Johnstown United Methodist Church; member and Past Master of Center Lodge #86 F&AM; member and treasurer of the Licking County Shrine; member of York Rite, Clinton Chapter #86, Kinsman Council #76, Clinton Commandery #5, Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, Aladdin Shrine of Columbus, Peter J. Copeland Lodge O.E.S. and Moundbuilders Rose Society. He served as chair of the Monroe Township Zoning Board of Appeals for nearly 30 years. He had been inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame of the University of Findlay and New Albany High School. He had numerous hobbies and interests including fishing, hunting, Native American artifacts, woodworking and growing apple trees. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary C. Thomas; son, Dr. Erik R. (Barbara) Thomas of Raleigh, NC; sister, Marlene (Gene) Johnson of Minehaha Springs, VA; 4 grandchildren, Spencer, Lauren, Jane and Natalie. He was preceded in death by son, John D. Thomas; his parents; and 2 brothers. Funeral Service will be held at 10 AM Monday, March 31, 2014 at the Johnstown United Methodist Church, 159 S. Main Street, Johnstown, OH, where a Masonic Service will be held at 6 PM Sunday. Interment Green Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Center Lodge #86, P.O.
