Norma Jean Clark

Norma Jean Harmon Clark was born on April 13, 1937 in Woodsfield, Ohio to Virgil William and Lora Ethel Hall Harmon. Ancestors of both parents were early pioneers to the Ohio Territory, arriving in the 1600’s to early 1700’s. Norma moved with her family at the age of seven from Woodsfield to Corning, Ohio where she graduated from high school in 1955. In 1958 she graduated from Ohio University with degrees in Elementary Education and Music Education with emphasis in voice. At OU she met her husband, Richard (Dick) Clark of Amesville, Ohio and they were married on August 9, l958 in Corning Methodist Church. They moved to Columbus in 1959, joined the Presbyterian church and in 1969 moved with their three children to a small farm near Johnstown, Ohio and transferred to Johnstown Presbyterian Church. While enjoying country life for years, in 2005 Dick and Norma moved into Johnstown and also enjoyed life in town.

Norma is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, children Ann Clark Borchard (Craig) of Windsor Heights Iowa, Janice Clark Stefko, (Joseph) of Lake Milton Ohio, Alan Richard (Laura) Clark of Johnstown OH, and grandchildren Zachary and Ethan Borchard, Jordan Marie, Jacob and Joseph Stefko, and Daniel, Nathan (Alexandra) and Luke Clark and brothers Robert Harmon (Karen) of Lancaster, OH and Kenneth (Leah) Harmon of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and nieces, nephews and great nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Norma taught school in Middleport, Columbus, Whitehall and Johnstown, Ohio. She was also a licensed realtor. She enjoyed playing flute with two flute choirs, one in Lancaster and one in Columbus. Since her early teens Norma was active with church music. Over the years she has served as pianist, flutist, choir director, vocal soloist, choir and praise team member. She taught Sunday School, led Bible studies and served as an elder in the Presbyterian Church. Other activities include serving on the Chimes Terrace Board of Governors, Babcock and other school committees, and working with dog 4-H club which for years included her three children and their three dogs.

Norma loved reading and especially enjoyed being in the same book club for many years with her friends. She also enjoyed photography, genealogy and making computerized greeting cards for family and friends. Norma loved being close to nature, working in her herb, vegetable and flower gardens, sewing and interior decorating. She enjoyed family vacations, and visits and travel with family and friends. Norma’s greatest love and joy of life was God and family.

There will be no calling hours. A service of celebration will be held at the Presbyterian Church of Johnstown, 81 S. Main Street, Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 2:30pm.
