John "Jack" Willard Thompson Jr.

John W. "Jack" Thompson Jr., long time resident of Alexandria, OH, passed away Sunday January 21,2024. He was born September 19, 1928 in Columbus, OH to the late John W. and Marvene (Goff) Thompson. Jack met the love of his life Barbara A. Smith while working on a nearby farm. They were married May 15,1949 and remained married for 68 years until his beloved Barb passed away in 2017. He worked for many years at Western Electric in Columbus OH. He also was involved with farming from 1967 until his death. He primarily was involved with beef cattle and a few horses. Barb and he loved the farm that is still in operation by his children. Jack was a devoted father who selflessly gave of himself for his family. The farm homestead was always open to friends and family and weekly Sunday dinner was always offered with no need for an invitation. He and Barb were very involved in the community and active in the Senior Citizen Buckeye group in Alexandria. He was an avid Euchre player which he played right up until his last few days. Jack was always friendly and humorous and quick-witted. He was preceded in death by his parents and soulmate Barb. He will be deeply missed by his children, Linda (Art) Bowman, Cheryl Fenton (Frank Yenzel) and Craig (Pam) Thompson; 11 grandchildren 19 great grandchildren; nieces, nephews and the many friends that Jack and Barb enjoyed throughout their well-lived lives. A visitation for Jack will be held Friday, January 26, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Crouse-Kauber-Fraley Funeral Home, 225 North Main Street, Johnstown, Ohio 43031. A funeral service will occur Friday, January 26, 2024 at 12:00 PM, 225 North Main Street, Johnstown, Ohio 43031. A celebration of life will occur Saturday, February 17, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Johnstown Community Center, 180 W Maple St, Johnstown, Ohio 43031. Jack will be laid to rest in Glen Rest Memorial Estate, 8029 E Main St, Reynoldsburg, Ohio 43068.
