James Kelley, 84, laid down his working tools on April 26, 2022, and passed away peacefully at OSU hospital. God broke the mold after James was born to the late Lloyd Kelley and Nina Pasters Kelley on September 6, 1937 in Columbus, OH. Jim grew up the eldest of five siblings and with this he accepted the task to lead, challenge, and torture his siblings Danny, Linda, Mike and Pat with cheap mischief. While growing up in Jim's household was never dull his son Gary Kelley and daughter Donna Kelley Davis were well loved. He proudly passed his hard work and ethic onto his son where they worked in partnership as they showed their beautifully skilled brick masonry on buildings and homes all over Maryland and Ohio, leaving many wild stories to share about days on the job site. He became a retired Gold card member of Bricklayers Local 55 of Columbus, Ohio.
He is survived by his sweetheart and wife of 43 years Judy Kelley. Jim showed her daughters Debbie Vancherie (Jay) and Crysta Hall love, respect and treated them as his own. Jim's family continues to grow; he has five grandchildren, Schulyer Sloan (Cassie), Megan Kelley Dodderer (Jimmy), Ambre Hall (Mark Frenton), Angela Vancheri and Jessie Vancheri. Six great grandsons Izaiah, Nolan, Aulden, Whitley, Giavoni and Vincenzo. Including many beloved nieces and nephews.
Of all the accomplishments James would want to be remembered for his membership at Sunrise Lodge and being a Master Mason for over 20 years. He loved spending time with his lodge brothers and expanding his journey in the Freemasonry to be a 32° Scottish Rite Freemason, Knights Templar and Shriner.
James Kelley was a wonderful example of a man who always worked to become better. He was a master in masonry, Yorkie breeder and lover, family historian, and colorful storyteller. He always had time for others and was the first to lend a hand to someone in need.
A Masonic funeral will take place May 4, 2022 at Crouse-Kauber-Fraley Funeral home located at 225 North Main St. Johnstown, Ohio 43031. The family will receive friends at 12:30p.m. with service to follow at 1:30p.m. with Pastor Calvin Alexander officiating and all are welcome to attend.
