Don was born on December 20, 1942 in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania; the son of Chris and Jean Summerfield. He was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh where he attended dental school. After moving to Columbus, Don opened his dental practice in Upper Arlington and served as a faculty professor for The Ohio State University College of Dentistry. Later he opened Alexandria Dental serving patients across central Ohio. Don was passionate about his work and patients, performing dentistry for 53 years until his recent retirement last year at 80 years of age.
Don loved to golf, attend church, go boating, watch the Steelers, and spend time with his family. An important part of his family included his dogs, especially Cami Jane. He was very active in Kiwanis and served in the Army performing dentistry at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. His dream to travel Europe was fulfilled last July as he visited Germany, Austria, and Italy with his daughter. There were no strangers in Don’s life. He loved being around people and made friends wherever he went. He had a great sense of humor and loved telling great stories and jokes.
He is survived by his loving wife Michelle, daughter Aura and grandson Nathan, his son Jake, daughter-in-law Rachel and granddaughter Camryn.
A celebration of life and service will be held at Crouse-Kauber-Fraley Funeral Home in Johnstown, Ohio on Saturday, January 13, 2024 from 1-4 p.m. with services officiated by Pastor Dan McLaughlin beginning at 4 p.m. Donations can be made in Don’s name to the Northwest Kiwanis Club, P.O.
