Van Fossen, Charlotte Smith, age 98, a longtime resident of Croton, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday, November 9, 2015, following a wonderful long life. She was born to Reverend Jay E. and Anna Marie Smith on May 5, 1917 in White Sulphur (Delaware County). She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, William Van Fossen June 15, 2002, 3 sisters, Verena (Howard) Warner, Grace Van Fossen, Naomi Bates and 2 infant brothers. Charlotte was the beloved mother of Dorotha Stansbury, Sue Safford and Chuck (Mary) Van Fossen. Loved by 14 grandchildren and 8 spouses, 25 great-grandchildren and 5 spouses and 5 great-great grandchildren with #6 on the way. She is also remembered by her brother, Gene (Wanda) Smith, her sister, Ruth (Allen) Dorsey and a brother-in-law, Danny Van Fossen. Charlotte was an active member of the Croton United Methodist Church for 80 years. The family will receive friends at the Crouse-Kauber-Fraley Funeral Home, 225 N. Main Street (State Rt. 37), Johnstown, OH from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, November 13, 2015. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 14, 2015, at The Croton United Methodist Church, 75 N. High Street, Croton with Pastors Eva Marie Wolfe and Kyle Young officiating. Interment will follow in Hartford Cemetery. If desired, contributions may be made to either Croton United Methodist Church or Hospice of Central Ohio in memory of Charlotte.
