Eleanor “Jean” McGee, age 87, of Blountville, Tennessee passed away on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the Courtyards of Johnson City, Tennessee.
Jean truly loved spending time with her large family, gathering with them for meals was very important to her. She enjoyed working in her yard and flower beds, as well as in her family member’s gardens and helping with their tobacco crops. She liked taking rides down winding country roads, Blizzards from Dairy Queen, country and gospel music, and flashy red fingernails. She worked at several local grocery stores, but ultimately found her work home at Appalachian Bible Company. Jean was of the Baptist faith and a member of Boones Creek Bible Church.
Jean was a daughter of the late Wylie and Maud Barnett. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband of 56 years, Ralph McGee; her brothers, Lloyd Barnett, Brown Barnett, Dallas Barnett, Bobby Barnett, and Teddy Barnett; her sisters, Margie Francis and Shirley Barnett; and son-in-law, Jack Burnett.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Burnett; her great-grandson, Tennessee Darby; her sisters-in-law, Nancy Reece Barnett, Nancy Barnett, Anita Barnett, and Lillian Hodge; her brother-in-law, Lee Roy McGee; and her very good friend, Janice Wallace.
The family will receive friends Friday, December 20, 2024 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Monte Vista Funeral Home. A Committal service will follow visitation in the chapel with Chaplain Stephen Collins officiating.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the nurses, aids, and staff at Courtyards of Johnson City for their compassionate care, especially Theresa and Holly.
