Shirley worked as a technician alongside a Forensic pathologist performing autopsies!! She wore many hats throughout her life, fostering children, volunteering at hospitals, ultimately landing in Jensen Beach FL where she and her husband bought a real estate company.
She married Gerald Ploof who predeceased her in 2016, along with her mother Geraldine Palmer, brothers and sisters, Clarence Palmer, Joan Labombard, Carol LeClair, Kenneth Palmer and grandson, Michael.
After retirement, they moved to Port St. Lucie FL, where Shirley was always working and helping the disabled children. She was very generous to her siblings, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital, and the Shriners Hospital; always donating to their cause.
Shirley loved her family and friends. She always called to check in on everyone, ending her calls with “ok now, keep in touch”. Shirley always had everyone laughing and was the life of the party. She loved the beach and loved having lunch by the water, usually at one of the many tiki bars in the area. She loved to sew, and was always mending anything she got her hands on.
Shirley is survived by her children, Kevin Ploof, Gary Ploof, and Sharon Kolich (Peter); sisters and brothers Beverly Britton, Linda Palmer, Donald Palmer, Bonnie Palmer; grandchildren, Ashley (Aaron), Andrew, and Tyler (Kaitlin), Peter and Mark; great grandchildren, Chloe, Brooklen, Dallas, Bristol, Jason, Cole, Paige and Piper. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews all of which she loved and touched deeply.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at Aycock Funeral Home in Jensen Beach FL from 3pm to 7pm. In lieu of Flowers the family asks that you donate to Saint Jude Hospital, Shriners hospital or Hospice of the Treasure Coast.
