Richard "Gabe" Gero, Jensen Beach, FL

Richard Gero, passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 24th, 2021, in Stuart, Florida. He was born March 22nd, 1936 in Nashua, NH. He was a proud veteran and served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1956 and the U.S. Air force from 1956-1960. He was very Patriotic and loved his country. He was active in Veterans of Foreign Wars at Post 10066 in Jensen Beach, holding offices of Quarter Master, Service Officer, Adjutant and Captain of their own Honor Guard Team. He also was a member of the American Legion, Post 126 also in Jensen Beach. After serving as a Police Officer, Animal Control Officer, and Loss Prevention Officer for many years for J.M. Fields Co., he also worked for Jupiter Ocean Grande for many years. His love for music brought him into a retirement of singing and recording CDs, in which many were by request, spreading over 28 states. He entertained as a DJ for many special events or for an evening of Karaoke for many holiday parties for friends and at many Veteran’s clubs.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Beatrice Gabriel, his father, George Gero and a brother, Norman Gero. Richard leaves behind his loving wife, Bonnie Graham Matheny-Gero, three brothers, Fred Gero, of Manchester, NH, George “Sonny” (Sharon) Gero of Shenandoah, IA, and Paul (Betty) Gero of Derry, NH, two sisters, Pauline (Dick) Gosselin of Plantation, FL and Bertha Donovan of Derry, NH. Richard will be fondly remembered by three daughters, Deborah (Bob) Autry of Palmetto, FL, Chelsey (LaManuel) King of Port St Lucie, FL and Andrea Gero of Vero, FL. One son, Scott (David) Gero-Meideros of Ormond Beach, FL. A step-son, Dr. Tony (Kathy) Matheny, two step-daughters, Sheri Matheny of Columbus, OH and Kim (Tim) McGinnis of Clarksburg, WV, and his former wife, Kim Clara of Vero, FL. Richard also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild, 3 step grandsons, 2 step great grandchildren, a close niece, Stacy (Jeffrey) Fuller of North Adams, MA, and many other nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life with full Military Honors will be held for Richard (Gabe} in the AL Pond Hall, at VFW Post 10066, 1805 Savannah Road in Jensen Beach, Sunday, February 21st at 2:00 p.m. Please respond if you plan to attend so we may plan a luncheon accordingly.
