Jimmie Jesse “JJ” Gowan, 85, of Jasper, passed away on January 10, 2021. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, January 12, 2021, 2 p.m. at Boldo Cemetery. Gary Cordes will officiate. Jimmie was of Native American heritage and was proud of it. He joined the Air Force when he was 17 and worked on aircrafts. It gave him a career that allowed him to travel to several countries, meet interesting people and have great adventures. He felt that he led a blessed life. He often quoted from the old Indian Bible, which will be buried with him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Garrett Gowan and Laura Salois Gowan; daughter, Karla Renee Walls; son, Jimmie Edward Gowan; granddaughter, Renee Michelle Sherer; grandsons, Kristopher Kane Morris and Jimmie Shane Sanders; great grandson, Zachary Cordes Sherer; brothers, Robert Gowan and William Garrett Gowan; sisters, June Gowan, Eva Evans and Joyce Marie McGillen; father-in-law, Homer Edward Cordes; mother-in-law, Edyth Woodley Cordes.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margaret Cordes Gowan; son, John William Gowan (Katherine); daughter, Joyce Marie Hallmark (Billy); grandchildren, Teri Head, Johnny Shannon Sanders, Michael Morris, Sheryl Gowan, Jennifer Gowan, Stephanie Gowan, Jason Gowan (Lori), Justin Gowan (TaNiesha), Rebecca Gowan; 11 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Joe Stephen Cordes; many loved nieces and nephews and other too many to name relatives and special friends.
