She enjoyed a blessed life with family and friends, enjoying God’s green earth, gardening, pets, rock painting, and bird watching. She was a member of Gorgas Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school in earlier years and was an avid supporter of world mission’s work. Ilene married the love of her life and high school sweetheart, Carl Quinton Black, on November 27, 1949, in Jasper, AL, and was a graduate of Curry High School Class of ‘45. The light in her eyes reflected the joy in her spirit, which brought warmth and love to all she came across in life.
She was preceded by her parents, Forrest and Mae Ryan; sister, Betty Ryan Black and brother-in-law, Eldred Black; in-laws, James and Veila Elizabeth Black; sister-in-law, Carrie Black; brother-in-law, Harold and Era Black.
Ilene is survived by daughter, Barbara Black, of Vestavia Hills, AL; grandson, Noah Schinasi, of Vestavia Hills, AL; nephews: Russell Black, of Hoover, AL; Bryan Black (Amy), of Marietta, GA; Jimmy Black (Jolene) of Franklin, LA; and Dr. Lee Black, of Mansfield, TX; nieces, Vicki Logan (Doug), of Creedmoor, NC; and Melinda Black Trapp, of Oxford, MS; brother in laws, Ben Black (Joy), of Hoover, AL; and James Black (Sarah), of Creedmoor, NC; and a host of friends.
Many thanks to the Nursing Staff of the Comfort Care Home Health Team of Jasper, AL, who monitored her care from 2016 to 2023. Heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and staff of Aveanna Hospice.
Graveside services was held Monday, April 24, 2023 at Curry Cemetery 2 p.m.. Directed by Kilgore-Green Funeral Home. Chaplain Chris Godfrey officiating.
