Euna Mae Gambrell, 95 of Jasper, peacefully passed away on Thursday September 22, 2022, surrounded by her family. She was blessed by God to have lived as she liked to say, Ninty Five, and a Half Years! Her sweet sweet spirit is now in the presence of the Lord.
A Graveside service will be Sunday, September 25, 2022, 2 pm.at the Oak Hill Cemetery. John Jaye will officiate.
Euna Mae was a member of Jasper First Baptist Church. She loved her church family, and over the years was very active in its ministries. Euna was a journalist. She wrote feature stories for the Daily Mountian Eagle, as well as being the Society Editor. Euna Mae’s “Talk Of The Town” is still remembered today. She also wrote articles for the Birmingham Post Herald for many years.
She was a true volunteer. She helped organize the first “Habitat for Humanity” in Walker County. She also enjoyed being a Pink Lady at Walker Baptist Medical Center for a number of years. She led a full life! In her retirement years, she enjoyed golf, bridge, and working in her yard. She loved to travel. She was definitely making the most, as she liked to say, of her Ninty Five and a Half years. Most of all Euna was an amazing Mother and Mimi who taught us that God Is Love.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and ten siblings. Her first husband Fred Nixon Sr. Her second husband D. Joe Gambrell. Son In- Law Dr. Buzz Martin, Grandson Chad West and his Dad, Sammy West.
She is survived by Three children, Debbie Martin ( The late Buzz). Jimmie Leigh Lindley (Hal), Fred Nixon. grandaughter Laura Martin ( Gabby), and great grandaughter, and her namesake, Mae Martin McCutchen. Three (bonus) Children who she loved like her own. Danny Gambrell (Nancy) Gail West (The Late Sammy) Stacia Duncan ( Mike). Grands: Jody Gambrell (Jenny), Katy Burns (Heath). Mary Bec Brown( Dustin). Chris West (Christie) Craig West ( Karla). John Duncan, Beth Wood, Anna Owens (Andrew).
Great Grands: Ella, Davis, Henry, Dillon and Sydney, Chandler, Avery and Daniel, Molly Kate, Abby Grace and Sadie Claire, Charlie, Bo and John Michael.
She is survived by her Sister Evelyn Moon of Mooresville, North Carolina.
