Elmer Periece Welch, 81, of Oakman, passed away Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at UAB Palliative Care. Family will receive friends Tuesday, October 22, 2019, from noon until 2 p.m. Service will follow at 2 p.m. at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home. Burial will be at Day Cemetery. Randy Johnson and Kyle Hicks will officiate.
He was born June 25, 1938, in Websters Chapel, Alabama in Calhoun County. Graduated Alexandria High School, graduated Birmingham Business College, and has lived the last 50 plus years in Oakman, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge there as well. He was married to Martha Frances Welch for approximately 60 years. He attended Oakman First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon for over 50 years, served on Oakman Town Council for 2 years, served 10 years as Mayor, served as Magistrate for the town of Oakman, previously served as a member of the Oakman Fire Department, and was a longtime employee of ACIPCO in Birmingham. He enjoyed traveling, NASCAR racing, spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and a friend to many.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Frances Welch; parents, Dove and Ola Welch; brother, Perry D. Welch; sister, Emma Ree Welch Battles; grandparents, Leona and DeWitt Roper; mother-in-law, Adel D. Worthington; and brother-in-law, Horace Battles.
He is survived by his son, Dennis E. Welch (Sylvia); daughter, Bethany D. Brewer(Mike); brother, Bobby Welch; grandchildren, Keri Beth Brewer Adams(Hunter), Emily C. Tubbs(Mason), Phillip M. Brewer, Kodey J. Welch(Cassie), Patrick D. Welch(Marie), and Andrew P. Welch; sister-in-law, Donnie Welch and Pat Welch; great grandchildren, Addyson Kaye Tubbs, Bentley Ray Tubbs, and Hayden Belen Welch.
