I knew Jim as Jimmy, my high school friend across the street when my family lived in Ruskin Heights. Together we built a tree house for the kids. We had a fun time and shared a lot growing up as teenagers. Also I was proud of him when he was in the high school band.  He was a happy young guy and there was not a mean bone in his body. He loved jokes too. I'll see you again in Heaven, my old friend Jimmy.

I grew up across the street from the Steens in Kansas City, Mo.  Bonnie and I were best friends and still keep in touch and remain dear friends.  I remember Jim from him being my older sister's age and a very nice young man.  My prayers are with you all who knew Jim deeply and will miss him in your lives.  Much love and hugs, Nanci Moll

Jim was a great brother to me.  He always made me smile and laugh at his jokes and stories.  He had a quiet strength about him that was comforting.  He shared himself with us through his story telling, his songs, his paintings, and the way he loved people.  I will miss him so very much, and know that I will see him again in heaven.  I love you, Jimmy!

My brother was a compassionate, loving, spirited man who always made me laugh and was always there for me.  His passing is a great loss for all of us who knew and loved him.

Jim was my Uncle, he was one those people if you ever met him you had a friend for life! He was such a jokester, him and Aunt Ginni were so darn cute together! Gonna miss you buddy along with so many other loved ones...:(  I love you!!!

Jim was my brother (in law) and I’ve known him since he was 13 years old in the 8th grade.  He was always kind to me.  I remember a sad goodbye and special glint in his eyes in 1984 and again just a few weeks before his death.  They say the eyes are the window to the soul and Jim could tell a story with his eyes.  He was a sweet man and very dear to our family.  I wish his brother and I had had more time with him and his dear family. Love always

Jim is my father-in-law. My fondest memory is when he lived on Emerald Isle NC. We were up early and had coffee and went sea shell picking on the beach. We had a bonding that morning I will never forget.I will miss you more than you will ever know. I love you dad and you will always have a special place in my heart.

I am sorry to hear about the loss! I worked with Jim at DSS and he was always so kind and we always had the most enjoyable converstaions with lots of jokes! A great man has passed. Rest In Peace!

Jim was the best thing that ever happened to me at a time when we both needed someone God gave us to each other.We were together most of the time in our 38 yrs.I feel like part of me is missing.I know one day we'll be together again.Love&miss you Jim,Ginny

Wow....I am so sorry for your loss... Jim and I worked together here at DSS. He always had a big smile and a great laugh. When he left DSS we said that we would always remember each other for we shared the same birthday and we were exactly 20 years apart. I could not think of a nicer person to share my birthday with. I will miss you Jim, and I will definitely remember you on our special day...My thoughts and prays are with the Steen family during this great loss.

I remember Jim as a young man.  We all enjoyed his easy going manner and that big smile.  Kind regards to the entire family as you adjust to the great loss.

I met Jim trough our work at Onslow County DSS....Jim was an honest, decent, wholesome person.   I will always remember his with a smile in his face, always ready for a joke..... I am so sorry for your loss..
