WILLIAM KNOWLTON RUSSELL, JR., (BILL) passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2012, after a lengthy illness. Born November 24, 1951, and reared in Jacksonville, FL, Bill graduated from Lee High School. He earned his Bachelors’ and Masters’ degrees from Florida State University and was privileged to study at the University of Cambridge, England, for three months. At the request of one of his professors, Bill remained at the University for an additional three months as a graduate research assistant. Upon graduation, Bill began a career in computer sales and management.Bill is predeceased by his exceptional, very loving and supportive parents, Juanita Davis Russell and William Knowlton Russell, Sr. His family includes his wife, Kai Woods, his sister, Mary Lou Russell, his beloved and faithful dog, Baron, and many cousins.A long-time resident of Jacksonville Beach, FL, Bill was an outdoorsman who surfed, fished and kayaked. He also enjoyed cooking and was very accomplished with the grill. Another hobby Bill pursued while at the beach was the purchase and renovation of several beach properties. Bill’s legacy is his friends. He never met a stranger and never forgot a friend. He kept friends from elementary school to the present, formed lifetime relationships and was very supportive of them. Bill’s friends always came first in his life and so they shall remain in his death. The family visitation to greet friends will be on Monday, February 20, 2012, from 6:00pm until 8:00pm at Hardage-Giddens Town and Country Funeral Home. The service to celebrate Bill’s life will be on Tuesday, February 21, 2012, at 11:00 AM, in the Chapel of Hardage-Giddens Town and Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd. Interment will follow at Riverside Memorial Park and a reception will follow at the funeral home.
