He was the son of Mary Lynn Bush of Jacksonville, Florida and William V. McClain of Livingston, Montana. Bobby was born in Port Hueneme, California, on January 8th, 1971. He and his mother returned to Jacksonville in the summer of 1973. He attended public schools in Duval County. When he was in his junior year at Baldwin High, he enrolled in a program that allowed him to spend half a day in class and the other half in a shop class learning a skill. For Bobby that skill was autobody and finishing. He would graduate with a certificate of completion and hopefully a job he would enjoy. The DCS system being what it is and Bobby being the person that he was he never completed high school and dropped out to join the Seafarers Union and become a Merchant Marine. Bobby was very mechanically inclined and was very good at working on small engines and electrical harness for radios and stereos systems in vehicles. After his training in Pinney Point Maryland. he was assigned to a Merchant Tanker that supplied oil and gas to the U.S. Navy Ships in the 1st Gulf War. Bobby was very proud of his service and brought home a DVD of himself on the job during one of these transfers. During this first deployment his and Lisa’s first son was born, Robby McClain. When Bobby got his first leave he came home, and he and Lisa were married. Bobby was on his second deployment when Lisa advised him that she was pregnant and having some problems, Bobby returned to Jacksonville and did not return to sea again. He did work very hard at several different jobs. Bobby worked hard and he played hard and when he had money everyone played with him. He was also very impressionable and was on more than one occasion taken advantage of by others. He believed in people, and he had a big heart. At some point in his last years, he had hurt his back and was in a great deal of pain. That pain led him to use illegal substances. At the time of his death, he was working at installing sound and lighting systems on all kinds of vehicles. This was a job he truly loved and enjoyed doing.
Bobby leaves behind, to remember him, his mother, Mary Lynn Dill-Maxey (Don). His beloved Nana, Patsy Thornton, Sons Robby McClain and his 4 children, Son Ryan McClain and his 2 children, His stepfather Robert Karl John Dill and his family. His longtime girlfriend Barbara, and her daughter Pamela Duggan (Tony). There are friends and extended family that will remember him fondly. He is missed by his two dogs Baker and Romeo. A memorial service will be held at 10:00A.M. on Friday, September 8th, 2023, at the Hardage-Giddens Riverside Funeral Home, Acosta Chapel, 7242 Normandy Blvd. Jacksonville, Florida. Immediately followed by a reception.
